Beattie Elected Co-chair of Florida Caribbean Regional Council of U.S. Green Building Council

MIAMI—The Miami office of international architecture, planning, engineering, interior design and program management firm LEO A DALY is pleased to announce that its director of architecture, J Beattie, AIA, LEED AP, has been elected co-chair for the Florida Caribbean Regional Council of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

As co-chair, he will maintain his representation of the South Florida Chapter, where he currently sits on the Board of Directors, and engage with seven other chapters in Florida and the Caribbean Islands. Additionally, he will participate on the USGBC’s Chapter Steering Committee, which meets regularly to discuss guidance and direction for chapters throughout the nation. The position will be shared with architect John Toppe, the first chair of the Florida Caribbean Regional Council and founder of the Florida Gulf Coast Chapter of the USGBC.

Beattie has been an active participant of sustainable efforts for many years. He has been involved with the South Florida Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC-SF), where he has served as vice president on the Board of Directors and Chair of the Education Committee. Over the past four years, Beattie also has served as the USGBC-SF Chapter Board representative for the Florida/Caribbean Regional Council.

Professional of the Year Award

Beattie’s efforts have earned him awards including a 2007 LEED Accredited Professional of the Year Award from the Miami chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), and a Certificate of Appreciation from the U.S. Green Building Council for his leadership as the LEED 2009 Regionalization Task Force Chair for the Florida Caribbean Region.

Beattie has more than 26 years of experience with projects in the areas of aviation, commercial office buildings, custom residential, retail, education, libraries, museums, healthcare, and governmental office facilities. He received a Design award from the AIA Miami Chapter for his home designed in 1992 and won a day lighting first place residential award from House and Gardens in 1994. In 2006, he received the President’s Award from Leo A. Daly III, FAIA, RIBA, for his outstanding leadership in the company.
