LYNDEN, WASH.—Lynden Door Inc., a manufacturer of wood flush interior doors, announced that it has been third-party certified for Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain of Custody (SGS-COC-003855). The FSC COC audit report found the Lynden plant to be a safe, efficient and progressive manufacturing operation.

“Lynden Door’s lean manufacturing initiatives are a perfect platform from which to launch Chain of Custody certification,” said senior vice president John Ridder. “Furthermore, the company’s order flow, accounting and procurement processes all offer strong administrative support for Chain of Custody documentation. We welcome traceability as a fundamental of our overall manufacturing operation, and as a part of our dedication to corporate social responsibility.”

Achieving FSC chain of custody certification is consistent with Lynden Door Inc.’s wood procurement policies and guidelines.

“We believe that wood is the ideal choice for making high quality, durable doors,” said Dick Moreno, technical administrator. “Our products make excellent use of wood’s native characteristics and wood’s long history as the material of choice for interior doors is evidence of this. Sustainability, reinforced through FSC and their leadership in promoting well managed forests makes our wood doors even more appealing from an environmental perspective and adds to our ability to contribute to LEED.”

A Standard to Benchmark Against

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System certification provides independent, third-party verification that a building project meets the highest green building and performance measures.

“Chain of custody” is the path taken by wood from the forest floor to the marketplace. Lynden Door’s compliance with this standard means that Lynden Door Inc. has passed an initial audit by FSC-approved auditors and is subject to future audits. C of C certification affirms that the Lynden plant procures wood from responsibly managed forests.

“Lynden Door is committed to ongoing growth of environmentally intelligent product portfolio choices,” John Ridder added. “We already have several exceptional ‘green’ products and strong working relationships with suppliers have allowed us to be environmental leaders in the door industry. We are now able to leverage those existing positive factors with our new certifications for even greater manufacturing flexibility. Chain of Custody certification is a finite example of our willingness to invest in meaningful environmental initiatives.”

The Lynden Door facility was also certified by SGS under the protocols of Sustainable Forestry Initiative (US/07/SFI/051 NCS-SFICOC-052), an independent third-party certification scheme used widely in North America.

“SFI gives us a measure of redundancy that ensures we meet an extremely high standard and also opens up more certified timber resources to us,” Moreno said.
