BENTON HARBOR, MICH.—Whirlpool Corp., a leading manufacturer and marketer of appliances, announced the release of the company’s first global, comprehensive sustainability report. The report provides an overview of the company’s efforts to make a sustainable difference in the world.

The company also produces an annual report and, for the first time, is making a detailed Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) report publicly available, in addition to other required regulatory filings. These reports reflect the company’s commitment to openly communicating with its stakeholders about its economic, social and environmental performance.

Whirlpool Corp. is a leader in developing high-performance appliances that help conserve the Earth’s resources and allow appliance users to use resources more efficiently. The company continually strives to understand and manage the environmental effects of its business, not only by creating new and innovative products that consume less energy and water, but also by improving processes and using materials that minimize the impact on the planet.

Whirlpool Corp. has a long-term commitment to environmental protection and natural resource efficiency, which began 40 years ago with the creation of a corporate office for environmental control. In 2003, Whirlpool became the world’s first appliance manufacturer to announce a global greenhouse gas reduction target. Recently, the company announced that by 2015, it will make all the electronically controlled appliances it produces—everywhere in the world—capable of receiving and responding to signals from smart grids.
