SUNRISE, FLA.—Advantix Systems, a manufacturer of energy efficient air-conditioning technology, announced that it has been selected as a 2014 Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum. The award recognizes companies on the cutting edge of innovation with potential to transform the future of business and society.

The final selection of Advantix Systems and 35 other winners in three categories—including Energy and Environment, Life Sciences/Health, and Information Technologies, Telecommunications & New Media—was made by a selection committee comprised of top technology and innovation experts, academics and venture capitalists.

Advantix is being recognized by the World Economic Forum for developing its breakthrough, patented liquid desiccant technology which reduces heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) energy consumption by 30 to 50 percent. The key behind the energy savings is its proprietary liquid desiccant system—a natural, salt water solution that extracts humidity from the air while cooling it at the same time. Conventional HVAC systems have only one method of removing humidity: overcooling the air to dew point, and extracting moisture through condensation. The remaining air is then excessively cold and must be reheated to a comfortable level—a wasteful, energy-intensive process. Salt has a natural affinity for water, which Advantix has harnessed to deliver precise humidity control without overcooling and significantly cut energy costs in commercial and industrial applications.

Overcoming Barriers to Energy Efficiency

“Advantix Systems is committed to helping companies around the world overcome barriers to energy efficiency and cut the growth rate of global energy consumption, and we are thrilled that being recognized as a Technology Pioneer will catalyze more businesses to make an investment in new innovations like ours,” said Hannah Choi Granade, president of Advantix Systems.

Advantix has customers in more than 30 different industry segments such as food processing, hotels, pharmaceutical processing, supermarkets, plastics manufacturing, dry storage, restaurants, animal centers, schools and condominiums. Its specific products give rise to the construction and labor industries in installation and operations, enable new modes of smart control, and promote advanced services businesses in engineering and building architecture. Additionally, the application of its technology extends well beyond HVAC into other industries such as inlet air cooling to improve the efficiency of power generation turbines, or compressed air drying systems for industrial applications.

The Technology Pioneers will be formally recognized at a ceremony on September 12, at the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting of New Champions 2013. The meeting is the foremost global business gathering in Asia, which brings together leaders from top-ranked multinationals and senior executives of dynamic and fast-growing companies.
