WARRENTON, VA.—Airlie, known for its distraction free meeting environment, abundant gardens and sustainable practices, has just been designated as the first lodging destination to receive the Certified Healthy Destination by the Institute for Healthy Destination Accreditation (IHDA). The IHDA PIECES Certification serves as a discernment tool for meeting professionals, business travelers and general consumers who regard health as a significant indicator of value when selecting destinations for leisure or business travel.

After undergoing a rigorous and comprehensive health-value assessment, Airlie was awarded the Silver Healthy Destination Certification. “Airlie has a rich tradition in health and wellness as well as exceptional sustainability practices,” said Mary Ellen Rose Ph.D., Chief Science Officer for IHDA. “It was a gratifying experience to audit and certify a destination committed to maintaining a healthy environment for both guests and employees.”

One of the healthy culinary programs at Airlie is called Airlie Gourmet, where a guest can order something from the kitchen and enjoy it in their guestroom or anywhere else on the property. IHDA recognized it as a very healthy culinary choice. They described the program as healthy farm to fork dining packed in sustainable, earth-friendly containers. The center identifies examples of how Airlie is able to satisfy a guest’s Physical, Intellectual, Emotional, Community, Environmental and Spiritual needs just by ordering Airlie Gourmet and enjoying the meal outside on the property.

“We are truly honored to be chosen as the first designee for this wonderful award,” said Airlie Managing Director Kevin Carter. “Airlie was founded on the principles of being a good community and environmental steward more than 50 years ago, and we are very proud of the fact that we have embraced the mission and continue to share this beautiful property with guests every day.”
