MILWAUKEE, WIS.—Telkonet, Inc., whose complementary business divisions include EcoSmart, an energy management technology platform featuring Recovery Time technology and EthoStream, one of the largest high-speed Internet access (HSIA) providers in the world, announced that the Metropolitan Hotel in downtown Cleveland, Ohio has selected the EcoSmart system to manage guest comfort and energy use and the EthoStream HSIA solution to provide wireless communication infrastructure.

The project will be the largest installation of the combined technologies for Telkonet to date at more than a $529,000 value. EthoStream will provide a robust converged network to support public Wi-Fi, administrative networks and the underlying architecture for the energy management system. The network infrastructure was designed to meet Marriott’s Global Property Network Standards (GPNS) and provides extensive growth capabilities.

Telkonet’s EcoSmart energy management system features the EcoInsight networked intelligent thermostat and is projected to provide 32 percent savings on the property’s energy usage. The two systems were designed with interoperability in mind as the EcoSmart Suite of equipment operates using Zigbee wireless mesh on radio channels outside of the typical Wi-Fi frequencies. Telkonet’s EcoCentral web platform will provide ownership with alerting and reporting functionality to ensure the system and property are in optimal condition.

A Mixed Use Project

Keith Halfmann, Chief Operating Officer of Geis Hospitality Group said, “This project is unique because we are incorporating existing office spaces, a landmark structure and new construction into a mixed use facility that requires a very flexible communication network infrastructure, as well as an environmental control system that can maintain occupant comfort while providing maximum energy savings. The EcoSmart system from Telkonet Inc. was the clear choice with its wide range of data capture and reporting capability to simplify the management of a complex property. Marriott’s high end Autograph Collection brand focuses on a unique, luxury experience and the EcoSmart energy management system has proven to achieve the balance of guest comfort and energy savings. In addition, the EthoStream HSIA solution is proven technology and exceeds the standards set by Marriott for future network compliance.”

Jason Tienor, Telkonet CEO, commented, “The 9 project is an ideal showcase for Telkonet’s converged technologies. We’re pleased to partner with the Geis Companies and The K Company to bundle our EthoStream HSIA solution to power their mobile computing requirements and our EcoSmart intelligent energy management platform in this distinctive property to help minimize their carbon footprint and keep their construction and operating expenses to a minimum.”

The 9 complex includes the Cleveland Trust Historic Rotunda, a 29 story office tower that has been vacant since 1996, a 13 story office tower and a 1,250 space parking structure. The tower will include the Metropolitan Hotel, an Autograph Collection hotel by Marriott, luxury residences, the Adega Modern Mediterranean restaurant, Ledger Bar, Alex Theatre, Vaults SpeakEasy, MINT Ballroom, BARK Indoor Dog Park and AZURE, an 8,000 square foot roof top sundeck and lounge. Additionally, The 9 features a Heinens Market Place; the city’s first full service grocery market. The Geis Companies, an Ohio developer and design builder, purchased and is developing the site. The K Company mechanical contractor is managing the construction.
