I used Earth Day to announce the launch of the planet’s premier Green Lodging Survey. Set to launch in June (watch for it!), the survey is being produced in partnership with Greenview. Eric Ricaurte is the Principal of Greenview and I will be working with him on this exciting project. Greenview has helped launch several innovative industry initiatives including the Hotel Carbon Measurement Initiative, the Cornell Hotel Sustainability Benchmarking study, the Hotel Footprinting Tool, the Green Venue Report, and the UNWTO’s sustainable cruise development strategies for South-East Asia.

In June and months following hoteliers and innkeepers will be asked to complete the online survey that will consist of about 75 questions covering topics ranging from indoor air quality to energy management to procurement. The intent of the survey is not only to cover the best practices you are familiar with but to also uncover innovative new green products, technologies, and steps seen nowhere else that hoteliers are taking to reduce their impact while increasing profitability. The survey will be produced in the coming weeks. A trends report will be produced in the fall. It will provide analysis of the survey findings and highlight exemplary practices and innovations that stand out. For survey participants, we will prepare a compare report, confidential to each participant, to serve as a yardstick for a hotel to understand the status of each specific practice within the general participant universe. If you have a question or questions you believe should appear in the survey, contact me at (813) 510-3868, or by e-mail at editor@greenlodgingnews.com.

The survey, intended to be repeated annually, will only be a success if hoteliers and innkeepers participate and they encourage as many others like them to participate as well. Green Key Global and Clean the World have signed on as supporters of the survey, meaning they will promote the survey to their members and encourage them to complete it. We are currently seeking additional like-minded organizations to support the survey.

Green Lodging News and Greenview have put together a package of sponsorship opportunities for suppliers and others interested in getting in front of tens of thousands of potential buyers. Click here for details. Sponsors will benefit from exposure within the survey itself, in the publicity leading up to, during and after the survey, in the actual reports produced once the survey closes, through articles and advertising on Green Lodging News, through social media, and during webinars and conferences where survey results are presented. Contact me at (813) 510-3868, or by e-mail at editor@greenlodgingnews.com for additional sponsorship details.

Green Lodging News and Greenview look forward to growing this project in the years to come. Keep reading Green Lodging News for more details on the Green Lodging Survey.
