SPOKANE, WASH.—Ecova, the total energy and sustainability management company, announced the availability of the Waste Manager module on the Ecova Energy and Sustainability Management Platform, a technology platform for large commercial and industrial companies to manage their resource consumption across multiple categories. The Waste Manager module provides multi-site companies with greater visibility into waste generation and cost metrics to drive bottom-line savings, improve environmental performance, and support corporate sustainability goals.

In Ecova’s 2015 Energy and Sustainability Predictions survey, 60 percent of the respondents indicated that waste data was relevant to their role and is increasingly becoming an important business strategy. The Waste Manager module informs sourcing and optimization strategy, and supports zero waste initiatives with comprehensive cost, service detail, and contract insights. With the enhancement, organizations will have an all-in-one solution that removes the need to have separate applications or databases for facility, accounting, cost, and resource consumption information—all significant drivers of data and accounting irregularities.

“Today’s businesses are increasingly seeking a robust, cost-effective way to track, analyze and report on key waste metrics across their portfolio.” said Bob Zak, Senior Vice President, Facility Solutions, at Ecova. “The Waste Manager module offers enhanced reporting and targets specific client needs in an easy-to-navigate environment. Clients can now view waste generation trends in the same platform that they access similar metrics for energy and water, making it easier than ever for organizations to meet their environmental and financial goals.”

Key Reporting Features

The Waste Manager module adds key reporting features to deliver visibility, inform sourcing, and optimize strategy specific to waste services, including:

•    Service Details: Tracking procurement and optimization for waste service requires essential data points, such as container type, size and pick-up frequency, all available on the Waste Manager module.
•    Diversion Reports: Measuring waste diversion programs, such as recycling and composting, is important for communicating progress on these programs.
•    Contract Details: Understanding when contracts expire and other applicable terms ensures clients do not miss cancellation windows and allows them to verify that contracted rates and terms are honored.
•    Conversion Rates: Reporting in a consistent unit of measure is essential. When weight is not reported, Ecova’s technology converts volume to weight utilizing conversion factors that organizations can report and configure specifically to their portfolio.

While service providers, like brokers and national haulers, may provide some level of reporting, it often omits sites billed through city water utilities—typically about 10 percent of multi-site portfolios. The Waste Manager module not only provides streamlined and comprehensive waste reporting, but utilizes the same platform to leverage data and insights on energy, water, and telecom services.
