SAN JOSE, CALIF.—The Fairmont San Jose, in partnership with the Santa Clara Valley Water District (SCVWD), has initiated an extensive exchange program that will upgrade more than 600 toilets and urinals to high-efficiency (1.28 gallons per flush for the toilets and .5 gallons per flush for the urinals) models over the next several weeks.

By partnering with the SCVWD, the toilet installation supports Fairmont’s focus on improvements in waste management, sustainability and energy and water conservation. By upgrading to the approved high-efficiency toilets, the hotel anticipates an annual water savings of 2,368,669 gallons beginning with the first flush.

“Supporting the governor’s call to reduce water use state-wide by 20 percent, this voluntary project will substantially cut usage, says Kelley Cosgrove, General Manager. “The Fairmont San Jose’s sustainability philosophy is shared as a brand core value. This initiative which incorporates leading-edge community programming and key partnerships demonstrates our enduring commitment to minimizing the hotel’s environmental footprint.”

Beau Goldie, CEO of SCVWD, said, “It was a pleasure to help The Fairmont San Jose save water, not only during this historically dry period, but for years to come. Forward-thinking companies like The Fairmont San Jose are helping make Silicon Valley a more sustainable place to live. Since our toilet replacement program began, more than 25,000 toilets and urinal flush valves have been installed in offices, restaurants, schools, hospitals and other sites throughout the county.”
