DESTIN, FLA.—Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa has received the 2013-14 Green Meetings Approved by ConventionSouth certification from ConventionSouth magazine, a leading national resource for meeting planners holding events in the South. The annual certification program evaluates and recognizes properties for their green meeting initiatives and the ability to help meeting planners meet their own green meeting objectives.
“We’ve worked long and hard on our sustainable practices and green initiatives, and are excited to have our efforts recognized with this certification,” said Gary Brielmayer, general manager of Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa. “From water reduction and energy conservation, to sourcing local products and protecting the surrounding natural environment, meeting planners can be certain we’re maintaining a variety of green initiatives—indoors and out.”
A certified Green Lodging resort since 2009 by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the Hilton Sandestin Beach continues to invest in recycling, water conservation, energy reduction and other green standards through annual capital improvements.A recent $9 million investment included the addition of “turtle safe” LED lighting to the resort’s 20,000 square feet of beachfront deck space; planting of 30,000 new sea oats to protect the shoreline dunes; and A/C enhancements throughout the resort. The Hilton Sandestin Beach has also been recognized for its conservation efforts by Gulf Power, which issued a $50,000 rebate check—the largest to date from Gulf Power as part of their commercial customized incentive program for customers who undertake environmentally friendly improvements.
