GLENS FALLS, N.Y.—1 Hotels, FOUND:RE Phoenix, HGU New York and Shore Hotel have all chosen to carry JUST water in their relentless efforts to further reduce their carbon footprints. JUST water—100 percent ethically sourced spring water—is packaged in a paper bottle made up of 82 percent renewable resources by using FSC-certified paper and plant-based plastic derived from sugarcane. This use of renewable materials results in up to 74 percent less greenhouse gas emissions than traditional PET plastic bottles.

“Choices in travel and accommodations should support seamless extensions of conscious living, while also providing quality hospitality experiences,” said JUST CEO Grace Jeon. “These hotel partners each offer unique experiences in sustainable travel that take eco-consciousness to a new and exciting level, while creating awareness of choices from water conservation to renewable materials. We’re so thrilled that they have chosen JUST water to complement these thoughtful experiences.”

JUST water is responsibly sourced, produced and packaged for environmental and social impact with 100 percent spring water from the Glens Falls watershed in Upstate New York where water is abundant. An ethical trade revenue partnership with the city of Glens Falls is revitalizing the local community by paying more than six times the municipal rate for access to less than 3 percent of its excess water. This appreciable revenue over time helps to upgrade aging water infrastructure, while the business model itself is restoring industry, providing jobs and protecting the watershed.

Jibes with Hotels’ Other Green Practices

In addition to offering a better bottled water, JUST’s hotel partners are built, designed and furnished responsibly, giving guests the ultimate sustainable hotel experience. 1 Hotels welcomes guests to their rooms with keys made from recycled wood instead of plastic. The LEED Gold Certified Shore Hotel in Santa Monica, Calif. relies on recycled building and locally procured materials, state-of-the-art water- and energy-efficient systems, and certified sustainable interiors, including furniture manufactured from FSC-certified wood. By sourcing food, furniture—even artwork—locally, hotels are able to decrease their carbon footprint, while educating travelers along the way. And guests are taking note—40 percent of 1 Hotels guests reported their hotel stay has influenced their sustainability practices at home.

Many hotels have food service programs based on local sourcing and some have even planted organic gardens on-site. New downtown boutique hotel FOUND:RE Phoenix is committed to sourcing from local farms and family businesses for its MATCH Cuisine & Cocktails restaurant as much as possible.

Thoughtful design also makes a difference. LED lighting, energy efficient appliances and “smart” temperature control systems at HGU New York add up to a significant decrease in energy usage.
