MEMPHIS, TENN.—International Paper single-use food packaging products now include paper lids. The company announced the launch of new fiber-based lids, a first of its kind to be manufactured in North America, to fit many of the high-quality paper food containers produced by the Foodservice division. The one-piece container covers are specially designed with sustainability, ease of use, and branding possibilities in mind.

“More and more customers are looking to take their environmental commitment one step further—they are looking for a total fiber package,” said Tracy Pearson, Vice President and General Manager, Foodservice. “The paper lid is a milestone for the North American foodservice market and our company as we continue to seek out new and innovative ways we can enhance our overall sustainability efforts through fiber-based packaging.”

Marketplace trends are showing a stronger preference for products and packaging made from renewable and sustainable materials. The new paper lid is specially designed to use less material, weighing up to 45 percent less than other paper lids, which helps support customer sustainability and material reduction initiatives. The fiber used in producing the paper lid and food containers meets Sustainable Forestry Initiative Chain-of-Custody standards, ensuring that both of these products come from renewable, responsibly managed sources.

For consumers on the go, hot or cold foods can be easily transported with the secure fit top to help protect against splashes, spills and leaks. Additionally, the unique pleated design allows hot foods to vent through the side and eliminates the need for vent holes on top for an uninterrupted, full coverage printing surface and additional billboard space for customized messaging and branding.
