CHICAGO—Marriott International has honored Cintas Corporation with its 2014 Supplier Sustainability Award. The annual award recognizes the Marriott supplier that has made a significant impact on its guests and properties through innovative ideas that help Marriott meet its environmental goals.

“We’ve established aggressive sustainability goals, so we need suppliers that can partner with us to achieve those targets,” said Denise Naguib, Vice President of Sustainability and Supplier Diversity, Marriott International. “From helping us reduce water and energy consumption to diverting landfill waste with innovative apparel programs, Cintas has been a true partner in assisting us with reducing our environmental footprint.”

Marriott implemented garments from Cintas, including its Regeneration Suiting line, that are constructed of recycled polyester, made from post-consumer plastic bottles. In 2013, Marriott outfitted employees in 96,000 eco-friendly garments, allowing Marriott to divert nearly 2.5 million bottles from landfills around the world.

In addition to its recycled apparel programs, Cintas also offers a coil cleaning service that allows hoteliers to lower energy bills, extend the life of air-conditioning units and improve indoor air quality. Certified as a “Green Process” by the Green Clean Institute, the packaged terminal air conditioner (PTAC) cleaning service enables Marriott to increase air flow by up to 28 percent and reduce up to 17 percent of the in-room energy consumption.

“We are continuously looking for opportunities to work with partners like Marriott to help meet their sustainability goals while also identifying ways to lower the environmental footprint of our operations,” said Pamela Brailsford, Senior Director of Supplier Diversity and Sustainability, Cintas. “We are extremely grateful to be recognized by Marriott as a leader in sustainability and look forward to continuing our alliance to reduce environmental impact while enhancing guest experience.”
