HIGHLANDS, N.C.—Old Edwards Inn and Spa announces the installation of a new Tesla High Power Connector for its resort guests, as well as a general charging station for all electric vehicles (EV).

Tesla Motors, Inc. is an American company that designs, manufactures, and sells electric cars and electric vehicle powertrain components. Tesla’s mission is to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable transport.

Old Edwards joins a growing network of upscale resorts in this program, which Tesla refers to as “destination charging.” The idea is to put Tesla chargers at hotels, resorts, and restaurants around the country so people can top off their Model S batteries while grabbing a bite or spending the night.

At the charging station, a High Power Connector is installed on a 240 volt circuit and can be supplied with twice the amperage as an outlet. At maximum amperage, it can supply power at 20 kW, adding up to 58 miles of range to Model S in one hour.

Connector May Influence Lodging Decision

Tesla spokesperson Alexis Georgeton says, “Tesla owners frequently decide where to stay based on charging opportunities, even if they won’t need a charge during their trip. By offering the convenience of a full charge every morning, Old Edwards will make their choice of where to visit even easier.”

Tesla’s vehicles are produced at its factory in Fremont, Calif., previously home to New United Motor Manufacturing Inc., a joint venture between Toyota and General Motors. In addition to being an automaker, Tesla is also a technology and design company with a focus on energy innovation.

Old Edwards Inn and Spa was presented with the first NC Green Lodging Award in 2011, and President Richard Delany says this partnership is a way of furthering those efforts. “As a luxury hospitality provider, we are always looking for ways to reduce and offset our carbon footprint,” Delany says. “Tesla’s mission to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable transport helps us meet our objectives in that area while providing our eco-conscious guests with conveniences while on the road. We are honored to partner with a company like Tesla that is pioneering innovative solutions toward a more sustainable future.”

Old Edwards does not charge for parking, and the EV chargers will be a complimentary service for guests.
