PALM BEACH GARDENS, FLA.—PGA National Resort & Spa has become the first U.S. resort property to achieve the International “Environmentally Sustainable Meetings & Events” certification from ASTM International, an ANSI accredited standards development organization.

PGA National attained dual certification in the Venues and Accommodations Level 1 categories. iCompli, a division of BPA Worldwide, performed the third-party certification. These categories are two of the nine criteria developed by the industry to provide event planners and suppliers with specifications for producing events in a more sustainable manner. Staff management, communications, waste management, energy, air quality, water, procurement, and community partners are all gauged.

“We are excited to be the first U.S. resort to be certified in both the ASTM Venues and Accommodations standards,” says Kathy McGuire, Manager of Sustainable Development for PGA National. “Certification to the industry’s rigorous, global standard is further evidence of our ongoing commitment to hosting sustainable meetings and events.”

PGA National offers “one-stop shopping” for meeting planners with 40,000 square feet of self-contained conference space and multiple open-air venues. A dedicated guest relations and events team; creative catering options; off-site event coordination; on-site transportation department; and in-house audio-visual specialists combine for successful “hassle-free” events.

The South Florida destination is showcasing the results of its recent $100 million revitalization including floor-to-ceiling makeovers of its 339 guestrooms; luxurious, themed suites: lakeside wedding/meeting venue; total overhauls of its 19th hole bar and grill (now called “Bar 91”), and new Fazio Course.
