STEVENSON, WASH.—Skamania Lodge, A Destination Hotel, recently broke ground on its Columbia Gorge resort property to build two luxuriously customized tree houses, designed by MG2, which are scheduled to be open to guests later this summer.

The tree houses are cozy, secluded, elevated rooms that sleep up to four guests, with modern amenities, overlooking Skamania Lodge’s lush forest and the Columbia River. Each tree house offers a large outdoor deck, an indoor/outdoor fireplace, a bathroom, one king size bed and easy access via an attached staircase.

“We’ve always prided ourselves in offering guests an authentic, Pacific Northwest experience,” said Ken Daugherty, General Manager at Skamania Lodge. “These tree houses will allow our guests to get even closer to the beauty of the Columbia River Gorge—to sleep in the forest, amongst the trees, with all of the comforts and luxuries of the lodge still at their fingertips.”

‘Whimsical’ Design

The structures are elevated up to 20 feet and designed with large windows and openings to make guests feel as though they are sleeping in the canopy of the trees. Design elements within the tree houses are inspired from the idea of creative childhood, when imaginations were thriving and days were filled with care-free playing outside and in tree houses. This whimsical design is paired with the luxuries of Skamania Lodge, like a lavish bed and extravagant outdoor-viewing (yet private) shower.

“Simple, yet contemporary in their aesthetic, the designs of the treehouses are meant to connect guests with the beauty of nature,” explained Ron Mitchell, Principal at MG2. ”We wanted to create a sense of escapism and fulfill guests’ desires to feel inspired, romantic or adventurous.”

The tree houses are scheduled to open in late summer 2016, and will be located near the entrance to the 175-acre Skamania Lodge property. Tree house guests will be minutes from all the lodge’s offerings, like the Waterleaf Spa, hiking trails, a golf course  and dining facilities, while still experiencing the peace and quiet of sleeping in the trees.
