TRENTON, N.J.—Boasting an improved capsule designed specifically for use in business and hospitality settings, SolaBev is the latest technology introduced to the single-serve beverage market. In addition to the ability to address the higher-volume needs of commercial enterprises, the company announced its partnership with TerraCycle to provide a recycling solution for its capsules.

According to a 2014 National Coffee Assn. report, the use of single-serve brewing systems continues to rise, due to their convenience and efficiency. For offices and hotel lobbies especially, single-serve machines eliminate any instances of leftover, unused coffee. With the additional option to recycle the SolaCap capsules through TerraCycle, businesses have the ability to eliminate coffee-related waste altogether.

“There is an unmet need for a single-serve brewing system that enables its users to responsibly dispose of their coffee capsules,” said SolaBev founder Michael Szyliowicz. “By working with TerraCycle, we are able to address that need by introducing a capsule recycling solution.”

TerraCycle to Handle Sorting, Processing

Through the partnership, recycling company TerraCycle will handle the sorting and processing of used SolaCaps. Once received, TerraCycle will separate the capsules into organics and plastics. Any leftover coffee grounds are composted and the plastics undergo extrusion and pelletization to be molded into new recycled plastic products.

“The demand for single-serve coffee isn’t going anywhere, and neither is the waste that comes from it,” said TerraCycle’s CEO, Tom Szaky. “SolaBev’s new capsule, which holds up to 25 grams of coffee, brews more per serving, allowing fewer capsules to be used. And by making them recyclable through TerraCycle, fewer capsules will end up in local landfills.”

SolaBev offers two machine models: the Mini and the Pro. Any office, hospitality or foodservice interested in the fully recyclable, gourmet beverage system can contact Rebecca Gelston at (303) 755-110, ext. 106 for more information.
