The 2014 green events season is heating up. Do you know which events you will be attending in the coming months? In a little more than two weeks, the Green Meeting Industry Council (GMIC) will hold its annual conference in San Francisco (April 15 to 17 at the Hilton San Francisco Union Square). Participants in that conference will have an opportunity to see and experience the sustainability efforts of one of 12 different locations throughout the city. The host hotel, the W Hotel San Francisco, and the Fairmont San Francisco will be three of the tour options.

At HD Expo, May 14 to 16 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, attendees will have a chance to participate in four Green Voice Conversations and another panel discussion—all focused on different aspects of sustainability. I will be moderating one of the Green Voice Conversations on the trade show floor. If attending HD Expo, be sure to attend all of the green sessions.

Just following HD Expo in Chicago, the National Restaurant Association Show will hold its annual trade show from May 17 to 20. There, a select number of people will have an opportunity to tour the rooftop of McCormick Place. It is home to the Midwest’s largest rooftop garden. Attendees can also stop by the Conserve Solutions Center, see the latest advancements in equipment and technology at the Kitchen Innovations Pavilion, or attend one or more of the eco-centric education sessions.

Guestroom Energy Management Technology

HITEC will be held June 23 to 26 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. According to the event website, there will be no green-focused sessions but attendees can visit with our industry’s leading suppliers of guestroom energy management systems.

Also in June, the Sustainable Furnishings Council will hold a two-day conference (June 13 to 14) focused on healthy and environmentally smart choices for industry and consumers in their homes. The event will be held at the Ronald Reagan building and International Trade Center.

Finally, a webinar series focused on topics ranging from green procurement to waste management will continue throughout April and May.

These are just a few examples of events coming up in the next few months that deserve your attention. Be sure to follow our Events calendar for dates and links to events you can participate in—whether in person or online. And, be sure to watch for details on the second Lodging Green + Sustainability Conference and Expo and the second appearance of Hospitality Green at the International Hotel, Motel + Restaurant Show, later this year.
